John Payne plays Eddie Rice, a man who's just gotten out of a veteran's hospital where they removed a piece of shrapnel from his brain. And his memory. He goes back to Los Angeles to find out who he was before he went to war. Turns out he was a gangster. Stepping out of the train station he's arrested by the police as someone who was warned to stay out of town long ago. A girl on the street recognizes him as her ex-husband and makes it very clear she hates his guts. A gang leader beats the daylights out of him for an old double-cross. Welcome home, Eddie. Main plot gets under-way when the gang leader kills a detective and tries to pin the rap on Eddie. Eddie takes a lot of punishment in this one.
